Leiths Introduction To Confident Cooking, 16 yrs +
The ultimate sixth form life skills cookery course for a lifetime of cooking, part time work and gap year travel.
This three term course is designed for Sixth form students to learn key cookery life-skills through a broad range of ‘go to’ recipes, with a view to embarking upon independent life, but with the benefit of opening the door to part-time work, gap year travel work or to cook for friends and family. This is an entirely practical course of study which can satisfy silver & gold Duke of Edinburgh skills requirements. The curriculum is global, modern and delicious, instilling a lifelong love of cooking, and providing a broad range of skills. This course fits into an enrichment or after school curriculum; schools need to become a Leiths Academy School to deliver this course.
Students on this course will master recipes from the everyday to occasions; from breakfasts & casual brunches, to afternoon tea, sharing plates and celebratory dinners. Each menu is tasted and marked and evidence collated via our interactive on-line portal and the course culminates in an end of course practical assessment marked by a visiting Leiths teacher. It also includes a Level 2 on-line food hygiene and allergens assessment - invaluable for future employment. Leiths Introduction to Confident Cooking can be delivered in a variety of ways to suit a schools’ individual requirements, working within the need for the equivalent of a single demonstration lesson and a double practical lesson each week or after school as part of an enrichment timetable. Leiths teachers will visit each term to support staff and students alike and the Academy team are on hand to provide general support and guidance.
This core one year (three term) course can be extended by an optional fourth term for higher level skills and an additional graded final assessment. In addition, an optional fifth term of teacher-led /on-line modules can also be added to include wine pairing, food photography and a group community cooking project.
